Specialists and yard duty supervisors who see students displaying their life skills will recognize and reward students with a Life Skills sticker!
Assemblies will be held throughout the school year to teach students different ways they can display their Life Skills and the importance of using these skills at school.
In September students learned a way to show respect in the classroom and to their teachers: SLANT. (Sitting up straight, Looking at and Listening to their teacher, Asking questions, Nodding their heads, and Tracking the teacher with their eyes). This body language/behavior shows teachers that their students are paying attention and is an excellent way for students to use their respect life skill in the classroom!
During our October assembly students learned another way to schow respect at Laurel: by saying "thank you" before leaving the classroom or office of a specialist. Posters are placed in the offices and classrooms of our special teachers to help remind students to say thank you.
