2021 Emily Garfield Award for Outstanding School Counselor by the San Mateo County School Boards Association Ashley Guilliot, our Laurel School Counselor, received the Emily Garfield Award for Outstanding School Counselor. Ashley Guilliot was honored for her ongoing commitment to the socio-emotional wellbeing of our Laurel students, her dedication to our students in the Caring & Sharing program, as well as her work to promote a healthy school climate with our Laurel Life Skills program.

Laurel School Honored with a 2020 San Mateo County School Board Association's Kent Award  Laurel School was awarded the J. Russell Kent Exemplary Program Award in May 2020 for implementation of a Project Based Learning Unit called Recess Rockstars! This San Mateo County award acknowledges innovative programs that achieve extraordinary success serving students over a multi-year implementation.  The District congratulates Laurel School for this fine accomplishment. During the Recess Rockstars Project Based Learning Unit, teachers facilitate class meetings and discussions, so the first grade students come up with different activities that they can create for recess. Several interdisciplinary learning activities tie into the Recess Rockstars unit. "Laurel School is the happiest place to spend your childhood and Recess Rockstars makes recess fun for everyone."

2016 National Blue Ribbon Award Recipient Laurel School was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award in 2016. Principal Linda Creighton and Assistant Principal Ellen Kraska traveled to Washington D.C. to accept the Award from the United States Department of Education. 

 

CaliforniaDistinguishedSchool

2014 California Distinguished School Award On June 9, 2014, Principal Linda Creighton along with Ashley Guilliot, School Counselor, Teacher Courtney Maury, and Superintendent Maurice Ghysels traveled to Sacramento to receive the Distinguished School Award for Laurel School. State Superintendent Tom Torlakson presented the award. 

This accomplishment is a clear reflection of the collective dedication of the entire Laurel community and the extraordinary efforts of the school's teachers, support staff, administration, parents and students. Our entire District is extraordinarily proud of the high honor conferred by the State of California on Laurel School and we believe that it proves what we have known all along about the greatness of the entire Laurel School Community. 


Laurel School Honored with a 2014 Kent Award Laurel School was awarded the J. Russell Kent Exemplary Program Award in May, 2014 for the school-wide implementation of social-emotional teaching through the Life Skills Program. This San Mateo County award acknowledges innovative programs that achieve extraordinary success serving students over a multi-year implementation.  The District congratulates Laurel School for this fine accomplishment.


Laurel School Honored with a 2009 Kent Award  Laurel School was awarded the J. Russell Kent Exemplary Program Award on May 11, 2009 for the program entitled: Laurel School's Differentiating Instruction: Academic Growth for All.  This San Mateo County award acknowledges innovative programs that achieve extraordinary success serving students over a multi-year implementation.  The District congratulates Laurel School for this fine accomplishment.

 

CaliforniaDistinguishedSchool

2008 California Distinguished School Award  On May 16, 2008, Principal Nancy Hendry, Assistant Principal Linda Creighton, Teacher Kristin Gracia and Superintendent Ranella traveled to the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim to receive the Distinguished School Award for Laurel School. State Superintendent Jack O'Connell presented the award in a ceremony for all successful public schools, In an evaluation process that included an 8 point rubric, Laurel School earned a score of 7.8.
